How to make your moving an inexpensive experience?
How many of us dread moving our house or office?
I am sure everyone agrees that moving is expensive, we want
to cut down on our moving cost but we lack experience on packing fragile items
and cant bear to part with items that is taking up unnecessary space. Lastly
many of us do not have the right experience in engaging the right movers Singapore.
In every moving, owners will be facing with two dilemmas to
either engage professional movers or do the moving themselves?
In
my biog, I will share tips for you to decide which option is more suitable for
your situation: to engage a House Movers company in Singapore or to do the house moving
yourself. Moving costs can be expensive, it is important to understand your
needs and avoid any hidden cost!
·
Donate
stuff that you do not need.
Give your items to your neighbours or friends who will need them. There are
also a few charity organizations in Singapore who will be happy to receive
items in good condition. Example, The
Salvation Army, you can email donor@SMM.salvationarmy.org
and do arrangement with them for pick-up of furniture and bulky items. They
also have various donation drop-off centres in Singapore. The less items you have, this will reduce the
weight and reduce the cost.
·
Avoid
moving during peak period.
Peak periods are months before the popular public holidays, example New Year’s
Day, Chinese New Year or Christmas. These festive seasons are the period where
contractors are rushing to finish their renovation works, and people are
waiting to move into their new homes. Allow for more flexibility and discuss
with your movers what is the best arrangement for a better quotation.
·
Invite
movers for a site survey.
Site survey is important to avoid any hidden cost, meet up to clarify and
understand what each movers will be providing in their quotation to avoid any
surprise on the actual day of moving.
Example, are packing materials be provided? Any additional cost for film
wrapping of fragile items? Protection for electrician appliances. Importantly,
the mover must be service oriented; they will be willing to go the extra mile
for you.
·
Seek
advice from movers if you have bigger items or bulky items to be moved. Always discuss with the
mover if you have expensive items, for example if you have a piano to be
relocated or if your items require specialty movers. Different situation might
arise for the movers to bring more staff on the day of moving.
·
Avoid
delays. Do
all packing before the movers arrived to ensure a smooth transition to the new
destination. Avoid being charged extra if the movers have to help to pack to
avoid any delay. During the site survey, let the movers know that you have
furniture or items that need to be disassemble prior moving and if you require
them to assist to assemble back together at the new destination.
